After an accident

What happens to your vehicle next?

Your vehicle has been towed to our storage facility and you’ve contacted your insurance company. Here’s what happens behind the scenes while your claim is being processed.

  1. Your vehicle arrives at Priority

One of our drivers has assisted you at the scene and transported your vehicle to our vehicle storage facility, where it remains until the next arrangements are made.

  2. You open an insurance claim

Provide your insurance company with Priority Towing Services’ name, phone number, email address and storage facility address.

  3. Your insurance company contacts us

Your insurer may contact us directly or use a third-party dispatch company to coordinate pickup. They request the towing and storage invoice, vehicle details and release status. Several parties may be involved.

  4. We provide the requested information

Our office responds to email inquiries within one business day and works with insurers and their representatives to provide the necessary information. An invoice request doesn’t necessarily mean the vehicle is ready for pickup.

  5. Your insurer reviews and approves arrangements

The insurer or its service provider reviews charges, determines the vehicle’s next destination and arranges approvals, payment and release authorization. This can take time when multiple parties are involved.

  6. Your vehicle is released and transported

Once arrangements are complete, your insurer may send an authorized towing provider or arrange for Priority to transport the vehicle to a repair facility or another approved destination.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

How do I release my vehicle?

Download and email our release form, complete it at our office, or call to arrange a verbal release if you cannot complete the form.

Do I need an appointment to visit the yard?

Not during regular office hours. Check in at the office when you arrive. Sunday and after-hours visits require an appointment.

Can I collect belongings from my vehicle?

You can visit during office hours and check in at the office. Call ahead to arrange an after-hours visit.

How much will it cost to release my vehicle?

Charges depend on the services provided and storage duration. Call (613) 879-4895 for the exact amount owing. See our Rates & Your Rights page for our published maximum rates.

Will I have to pay out of pocket?

If charges are covered and approved by your insurer, they may be billed directly to your insurance company. Coverage depends on your policy and circumstances. Uncovered services may require payment. Services arranged through a contracted roadside assistance provider may be billed through that provider.

How long will my vehicle stay at Priority?

It varies depending on the claim, approvals and next destination. Some vehicles leave within hours, while others remain for weeks.

Can an insurance appraiser inspect my vehicle?

Yes. Appraisers can visit during regular office hours without an appointment but must check in at the office.
